Most other backup application stop at the first file failure, however, Realcopy evaluates each file copy error and decides if the situation is
Auto-recoverable failure (using its internal features like VSS or Direct Disk Access),
User assistable failure (dropped network, low disk space) or
Unrecoverable failure (Disk read errors).

Realcopy immediately employs the best practice for each particular situation. Administrators can rest easy knowing Realcopy will only continue to retry if the failure is user assistable, and not if the file is unrecoverable.

If an event like a dropped network link or insufficient disk space stops the copy process from continuing, Realcopy will pause all operations and prompt the user to rectify the failure. Realcopy will wait until the user takes the appropriate action and will resumes copying within seconds from the last byte, instead of starting over.

This means that the operation is intelligent, fully autonomous, and saves bandwidth.

It is vital for backups not to impede on normal business operations, so bandwidth throttling is essential to maintain business continuity. Realcopy can achieve this by setting it to wait between packets or files, so that other network processes are able continue to function.

System Administrators can be confident that their business will be able to recover current data after a disaster, because backup operations can be full automated.

Any of Realcopy’s operations or functions can be automated using command line parameters in Windows Scheduler.

In the event of any backup failure, Realcopy will immediately advise Administrators via email.

During a live copy process the user is in total control and can manage Realcopy by pausing, resuming, or skipping any process.

This means that Realcopy will not hinder other more urgent operations which may need to be carried out on the computer.

Network connectivity to remote sites or over the internet is normally too slow to copy large files on a regular basis. With Realcopy, only the changed bytes of a file will be copied to save time and bandwidth (like Rsync for Windows™).

Realcopy incorporates a “quick seek” technology that enumerate more than two million files per minute. Also, Realcopy starts copying files immediately, while still enumerating which files to copy.

These features significantly decreases wait time for calculating the total progress of processed files, and the overall time the copy operation takes to complete. This results in huge benefits over traditional file copying like Windows Explorer™ (Windows Explorer™ does ALL its calculations before it starts any copy process).

Realcopy is intelligent enough to automatically skip files that already exist at the destination. It does this approximately 220% faster than competitors, making it the fastest file based incremental backup ever.

In addition, Administrators can specify all the sources and all the destinations into one copy operation.

Each copy process appears as a separate tab; and each tab is a separate independent windows process.

This means, should any one process halt or stop responding, it will not affect any other tab or copy process. Realcopy will auto-detect the non-responding process and notify the user immediately.

Some temporary files or folders (like the System Volume Information and Recycle Bin) never need to be copied, and Realcopy is smart enough to exclude them. The user can add or remove known exclusion by altering the “realcopy.ini” file.

Realcopy is designed to deal with the usual scenarios of a file failing to copy.

Using Volume Shadow Services (VSS) or Direct Disk Access (DDA), Realcopy can copy open or locked files. Provided the user is part of the backup operators group Realcopy can even copy files the user doesn't have NTFS rights to read.

Even though Realcopy cannot copy files if there is a disk failure, or a dropped link, Realcopy will deal with these using industry best practice.

The key focus of Realcopy is maximum speed and stability, and this is archived by making each copy process a separate Windows process. So if one process should terminate, no other process will be affected.

Copy operations can be started via
a graphical user interface,

via drag & drop in Microsoft Windows Explorer™.

Double clicking on Realcopy will launch a graphical interface allowing the user to initiate any of Realcopy’s features. These features can be fully scripted via a batch file, as all Realcopy functions can be performed via command line as well. Finally, the user can choose to enable shell integration and perform drag and drop operations in Microsoft Windows Explorer™ but with the added advantage of Realcopy's benefits like VSS and remote differential compression.

The ability to exclude files based on 16 parameters including file characteristics like
attributes,
size,
age,
data,
changes,
same files,
contents, etc.

This makes Realcopy one of the most powerful ways available to replicate files.

Realcopy doesn't just duplicate files, it copies ACL information (permissions and attributes), and alternative data streams, and has support for hard / symbolic links, directory junctions and sparse files.

The copy processes can be undocked and stacked into separate windows, so the user can take control and drag them around the screen as they wish.

This provides the ability to see copy processes from several different tabs on the screen at the same time.
